Save Those Coffee Grinds

Why throw out old coffee when you can use it for compost? Not only will it do your garden a world of good but you will be more environmentally friendly which is always a good thing.

Coffee grinds are excellent for adding to your compost, to which you can also include other things that you would probably just throw out such as shredded newspaper and grass clippings.

The reason that coffee grinds are so great in compost is because they are high in nitrogen, and adequate soil nitrogen is necessary for a healthy lawn and garden.

Keep in mind though that coffee grinds can be very acidic and so make sure that you comost them well before putting them in the garden.

Even if you don't drink a ton of coffee there are many places you can go where large amounts of coffee grounds are thrown away on a regular basis, such as restaurants and coffee houses.

Just ask to speak to the manager there and see what they do with their coffee grinds and if they are not already using them they will surely not have any squalls about giving them to you to recycle.
