Coffee Drinking Helps With Eyelid Spasms

There are some pretty strange things that coffee drinking has proven to be effective for, and this time is no different.

Studies have shown that regular coffee drinking can help protect againts eyelid spasms.

More specifically, that people who drink coffee are less likely to develop an involuntary eye spasm called primary late onset blepharospasms, which makes them blink uncontrollably and can actually leave them effectively 'blind'.

The study involved 166 patients with primary late onset blepharospasm, 228 patients with hemifacial spasm (a similar muscle spasm that usually begins in the eyelid muscles but then spreads to involve other muscles of the face) and 187 people who were relatives of patients. The second two groups acted as controls.

The idea here is that the caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors as is the case with Parkinson's Disease.

This is definitely interesting news and we will be keeping our own eyes on this story to see what develops.
